Macon Flood 1994

Macon was hit by a devastating flood in 1994 when the Okmulgee River reached levels high enough to flood into the city. This flood caused detrimental damage to businesses all throughout Macon and many were forced to completely rebuild in the aftermath of the flood. The most hard hitting effect of the flood however was most likely the temporary closing of the water facility. This is because the facility was filled with clay which caused Macon to be without water for about 3 weeks. The main cause of the flood was a design flaw during the implementation of the levees that caused the water to bottleneck directly into Macon.

Perfect Storm

The movie Perfect Storm chronicles the story of a group of fisherman who become caught up in what a meteorologist in the movie deemed a "Perfect Storm." The storm develops when three separate smaller storms all diverge together to form one giant mega storm. This storm causes winds to get to hundreds of miles an hour and swells to reach unprecedented heights. This storm is so powerful that it eventually capsizes and sinks the boat all together causing the deaths of all fisherman on board. This movie was a very good account of the potential that mother nature has to wreak havoc and how we must respect that.

Cruz Plaza is the newest addition to Mercer's campus improving both atmosphere and campus attractiveness. One problem the construction crew might face while building it is the effects that weather might have on the project, such as rain. Another problem would be to avoid any gas lines or other pipes or lines that may be running below the ground they are working on.
